We arranged our time in London around this excursion, needing to shorten our stay in Ireland to accommodate the last day that Highclere Castle was available. So my expectations were high. The Castle did not disappoint. We had plenty of time to walk through admiring the rooms, and then wander the extensive grounds. Oxford unfortunately was hosting a fair which meant changes to the parking of the bus and significantly reduced the time we spent with the guide and alone in Oxford. Most of what the guide pointed out was probably accessible independently. The village settings for Downton is very small and is quickly viewed. Our guide was okay but not outstanding, she was knowledgeable and had a dry sense of humour. The best part was Highclere. I would recommend trying another combination with the Castle and visit Oxford independently. But still a very good day.

Unfortunately parking was an issue in Oxford, but the place is amazing. Bampton is a lovely town to visit and of course, Highclere Castle did not disappoint! It's a little smaller than anticipated and you're not shown alot of rooms. Would be amazing to go up near the roof. Would also be good to have the option to visit the Egyptian exhibit available prior. The tearooms were pretty bare by the time we got there, luckily had bought our own snacks! All in all, a wonderful day.

Beautiful day with friendly and knowledgeable guide. Comfortable coach. Sadly there are no photos allowed in the castle and the “Downton Abbey” kitchen is not part of this tour. It would have been good to know this in advance. Also missing was specific info on the coach departure gate.
