Full description
Become Lord or Lady Grantham for the day, as you visit the film locations used in the BAFTA award-winning Downton Abbey period drama. Hear how the global hit TV series was made and about the actors involved and the wonderful history of the places you visit on this full-day tour. You’ll depart central London in the morning on a drive to the charming Oxfordshire village that has been featured in the series as Downton village. Enjoy a guided tour of locations such as Downton Hospital, the village pub, the former home of Matthew Crawley, and the local church.  Take a short comfort break before continuing on to Highclere Castle, which is the main setting used in Downton Abbey. En route you’ll learn about the thousand-year history of Highclere Castle and life above and below the stairs. Lunch can be purchased at Highclere Castle or you can bring your own lunch and enjoy it on the beautiful grounds. Although guided tours are not allowed inside the castle, you’ll be able to explore the above-stairs area of Downton Abbey independently with the aid of a self-guided information sheet. Imagine life as it was over 100 years ago and enter the world of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants as you wander around the estate. The tour ends in central London.

Central meeting point, close to a metro station. Very knowledgeable and pleasant guide. We were able to watch episodes on the bus to get in the mood. 3 hours to visit the castle was a bit too long. Luckily the weather was nice, we were able to rest in the park.

The leadership was very successful. Catherine took care of all the concerns of the group members quickly and easily. She provided us with great additional information in Bampton. Using pictures, she has drawn an entertaining comparison between reality and the "Downton Abbey" series. We explored Highclere Castle on our own. The additional flyer from the organizer was very helpful. The premises as well as the general setting was very impressive for fans of the series.

Eva is an excellent, friendly, kind guide. He explains everything very well. The problem was the bus, it is not very comfortable and the air conditioning did not work well. Much hot. It should also have some type of ventilation or all passengers wear a mask. The site is so beautiful that 3 hours to be there is short. I would recommend bringing a picnic and buying a drink in the cafeterias that are there to be able to use the tables. The food is not highly recommended and is expensive. The weather in Bampton is also short for walking. I'm so glad I went, but it's an expensive excursion.
