Discover the world of Charles Dickens on this private guided tour of Rochester, where he lived. See the Cathedral and the Castle, and visit the Dickens House and Museum. It’s also possible to visit the Chatham Docks and Royal Engineers Museum.
What to Expect
Your guide will pick you up at the agreed meeting point and you’ll head off on this 6-hour tour, beginning with a drive to the small, attractive city of Rochester and later, possibly on to Chatham.
Home to Charles Dickens, Rochester is located in the county of Kent, not far from London. Admire its beautiful Cathedral, old Norman Castle, and of course the Charles Dickens House.
If you’ve read Dickens then you don’t want to miss this tour, as you’ll have the opportunity to visit a number of places associated with his work. If you’re not familiar with the author’s work it doesn't matter as you’ll get to experience a Victorian city and learn how it inspired some of the greatest works in the history of literature.
If time permits, or instead of visiting Rochester, you can choose to tour nearby Chatham, home to a naval dockyard museum. See a number of ships from different eras and even climb through a modern Royal Navy submarine!
Nearby is the Royal Engineers Museum, which covers centuries of military engineering history right up to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
