Full description
Depart London in the early morning and be one of the first visitors of the day to Stonehenge. As you arrive at Stonehenge your guide will tell you the facts and theories behind this most famous of Stone Age structures. Was it a temple, a clock, a place of worship, or a burial site for the elite? Then it’s on to Bath, which has seen visitors since the time of the Celts. Centuries later, in the 1st century A.D. the Romans arrived, calling this place Aqua Sulis. Even later, during the Georgian era of the 18th century, the rich and wealthy arrived from London to see and be seen and took to the waters to rid themselves of joint stiffness and gout.  Stop for a break in the delightful village of Lacock. Seemingly untouched by modern times, this charming place has been used as a setting in many films, including Cranford, Moll Flanders, Pride and Prejudice, and Harry Potter. Enjoy a guided tour of this lovely village before you make your way to Avebury, a pretty village of thatched cottages nestling in the middle of a huge stone circle. After a guided walk in Avebury, depart for your return journey to London.

An option for small group that didn't do the standard windsor and oxford stops, this was a great alternative. It was so fascinating to learn not just about Stonehenge's history but other stone circles found in the country. Stopping at small towns to help give you a great feel for life back in older times, our guide was so knowledgeable he was even able to help point out a candy store that locked up back in the 80's and has sat untouched with it's old treats.

This tour has a lot in it, but it was a fantastic tour for those with limited time who wants to see a lot of varying sites - from Stonehenge with the mysteries of its origins and purpose to Bath with both Roman and high society of regaled by Jane Austin - its wonderful. Laycock and Avenbury are again so different, but great towns - and you get to see many Cotswold cities getting to and from these wonderful towns. Andrew our guide was funny and informative! Outstanding experience, well-timed to see several amazing sites in a single day, with a wonderful guide and comfortable coach. Our guide Valentina was knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful and kept us on a tight schedule while filling our minds and eyes with the wonders of the English countryside. We got to visit Stonehenge before it got too crowded, had a lovely lunch-time visit in Bath, strolled the charming streets of Lacock, and capped it off by communing with the ancient stones of Avebury. Highly recommend!
