  • Admire Lipizzan horses
  • Discover the Slovenian coast
  • Explore varied landscape
Full description
Passing through a varied landscape, reach the sparkling Mediterranean. The gem of the Slovenian coast is the medieval Piran, tucked in between the sea and the mighty town walls. The central square boasts eminent historical palaces, the birth house of the maestro Tartini, his monument and his name. You will walk up to the imposing Church of St. George with its Venetian-like bell tower to admire the view over the wonderful mosaic of roofs, streets and squares with the stunning backdrop of the bay. After the sightseeing, you will have time to discover the hidden corners of the town, wander along the promenade and sample some savory Mediterranean cuisine. Portorož is a contrast to historic Piran, being mundane resort town whose lively atmosphere you can enjoy during free time. Lipica Stud Farm is the cradle of the Lipizzaners, the noble white horses. Breeding began 400 years ago to meet the exclusive needs and demands of the Habsburgs. A local guide will show you around the estate; you will see the whole array of magnificent animals – uncertain dark foals, gentle mares, and proud stallions capable of performing the most amazing figures of the Spanish Riding School. The excellence of the Lipizzaners can be admired at their show, in which they astonish the audience with a sophisticated performance accompanied by classical music.

Our guide was easy going and very knowledgeable. She was well prepared for children (we had our 8 and 10 yo kids with us). The drive was comfortable and timing unhurried. Piran is a beautiful historic seaside town with a lot of interest. We also drove through neighbouring seaside towns as our guide gave us insight into the history of the area. Lipica is interesting if you enjoy horses (which I do) but I still think Piran and the associated commentary was the highlight.

Great tour! Ended up just being the two in our party as no one else had booked. Fantastic day with “Basil”, with plenty of time in Lipica and Piran, plus some wonderful stops for local food and drink. It felt more like hanging out with a friend than a tour. The horses and city are beautiful and it was a great way to get a taste of a lovely area. I’d love to go back and stay longer.

Our guide "Sigismund" picked us up at the hotel on time. Since there were only two of us, the route could be designed individually. First he showed us the karst landscapes before we drove to the sea in Piran. There he accompanied us through the town and to the city wall. There was enough free time to go out and have lunch on your own. Then we went to Isola at our request. Via Italy (Trieste), which is within sight, we went to Lipica to visit the famous stud farm. We were brought back to the hotel around 7 p.m. The excursion showed some aspects of Slovenia. Later I read in the travel guide that Sigismund hadn't mentioned all the sights of Piran / Lipica. It's also a shame that we couldn't attend a "show" by the Lipizzaner horses! The "guide" was very friendly and had a lot to tell. All in all, a good opportunity to see some parts of the country and get a taste for another stay!
