Full description
From the Beatles performing on the Riverboat Shuffle cruises in the early 1960s to tales of smuggling, Mersey Ferries carry a cargo of memories. On this 50-minute cruise, you’ll sit back and enjoy the fascinating commentary and absorb the heritage. There is simply no better way to enjoy Liverpool’s iconic waterfront than from the deck of a legendary Mersey Ferry. Learn about the history of the Mersey Ferries and the Beatles, who performed 4 times on board the Royal Iris. The performances spanned 3 distinct periods in the development of the renowned group. The first ferry performance was on a cruise in August 1961, when the Beatles were still wearing leather. In August of the following year, they performed again, changing their image to a more clean-cut look, sporting suits, and ties. Their final ferry show was on 28 September 1962, featuring Ringo on drums. By this time they had recorded their first single, Love Me Do, at Abbey Road Studios. A week after the show, Love Me Do was released. While enjoying the surroundings you can listen to the commentary in English pointing out the sights along the river. Information sheets in other languages are provided. The tour departs on the hour from Liverpool Pier Head.

Online booking. Have to get real ticket from the booking office, little queue but really friendly staff. Had bikes to have a ride over to Woodside. The booking office man said we could take our bikes onboard the ferry and do the ride to New Brighton, a proper circular route ideal for all. Thank you to that guy who gave us all the information, so friendly and helpful. Both ferries were exactly on time, plenty of seating. So glad we did it.

Suppose it’s one of those ‘Must do’s’ when in Liverpool. Easy online purchase, that transfer to physical tickets at the booking office, then a 10minute que to board the ship. Lots of space onboard, even though it was busy, and a relaxing informative commentary via the numerous loud speakers dotted around the boat (although a bit out of date now Liverpool has lost its World Heritage UNESCO badge, due to construction of new Everton FC stadium on the old waterfront derelict docks), but none the less, an enjoyable and fairly inexpensive experience if you have time on your hands and fancy something different to do. If anything, it’s a tick off the bucket list

This was a really good experience. It only lasts 50 mins unless you get off halfway which we didn’t. I was surprised as to how good the buildings of Liverpool look from the centre of the Mersey. A mixture of new and old with the Three Graces looking absolutely magnificent. We were fortunate to see a cruise ship too which was moored right next to where we boarded the ferry.
