Full description

No visit to Lisbon is complete without a day trip to magical Sintra and the gorgeous Cascais coastline. This full-day tour makes five epic stops, taking in the best sites a short drive west of the capital.

Start at the top of Sintra, a majestic natural park and impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site loaded with beautiful palaces, chalets, a Moorish castle and unique flora.

The Instagrammable red-and-yellow Pena Palace is one of the most impressive expressions of 19th-century Romanticism architecture in the world. Hear about its history while enjoying 360-degree views from one of Portugal's seven wonders.

While in Sintra, choose to add an optional visit to Quinta da Regaleira, a small palace surrounded by magnificent and mysterious gardens that hide lakes, caves and tunnels with obscure alchemist meanings, evoked by Freemasons, Knights Templar and Rosicrucians.

Wind down the mountainside, passing rural scenes and white-washed villages on the way to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Snap a quick photo and breathe in the ocean air before you travel to the day's final stop: Cascais, once the vacation destination of European aristocracy.

Take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean, kick back in the sunshine with a glass of sangria, or wander the cobbled streets in search of souvenirs before traveling back to Lisbon.

Luis was a great guide on this tour. He was very knowledgeable on the history of all the sites and also what times to go to best avoid the crowds. Would definitely recommend. And would also recommend a tour as opposed to self guided as some of these sites are very overcrowded and a guide really knows best.

The tour itself felt a bit rushed. We didn’t have enough free time in Sintra (only short time for coffee) and especially at Cabo da Roca (only 20 minutes). It’s also a little bit overpriced for my opinion, mind that the tickets for Quinta da Regaleira and Pena Palace are not included. Nevertheless we had a nice day and saw a lot of interesting things. Also our guide Luis was nice, funny and really smart.

Our experience has been excellent. Jose, our guide, is a charming person, very kind, friendly and professional who has helped us at all times. We have been a small group of 8 people of which only 2 of us were Spanish and at all times he has been translating everything he told us. The visit has been made in two languages, English and Spanish. It has given us a lot of free time and has given us many options to do what we want. Quinta da regaleira and Palacio da pena were optional and each one decided if they wanted to enter or not, since the entrance cost money separately, we have also seen everything and we have been much longer than expected. They picked us up around 8:00 a.m. and we returned around 6:00 p.m., thanks to the fact that we have stopped at all the places we wanted, regardless of the weather and without being in a hurry to finish, offering at all times the time we needed to see what we want. I recommend it 100%, a must visit
