Discover the fairytale monuments of Sintra on an 8-hour tour from Lisbon. Look inside the romantic Pena Palace and take a stroll in the gardens. Go to continental Europe's westernmost point at Cabo da Roca, and admire the Atlantic Ocean at Guincho Beach.
What to Expect
Depart Lisbon and head to Pena Palace (Palácio da Pena) in Sintra, an approximate 30-minute drive from the Portuguese capital.
Upon arrival at the fairytale palace, you will get about 1.5 hours to explore the ornate interiors. Considered one of the major expressions of 19th-century Romanticism in the world, the palace sits at the top of a hill in the Sintra Mountains. Take a stroll through the exquisite gardens before lunch at a nearby traditional Portuguese restaurant.
Next, go to Cabo da Roca for breathtaking views from continental Europe's westernmost point. Wander along the paths for about 1 hour. End the day at Guincho Beach, where there will be time to enjoy a short walk. Time permitting, visit Boca do Inferno and listen to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks.
