Ride on the historical tram to the oldest district of Lisbon. Get off at the lookout point of Portas do Sol and stroll through the old district of Alfama. You will then head to the lower town, also known as the chessboard of the Marquis of Pombal, which is a neighborhood that was rebuilt after the earthquake in 1755. See Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) with the triumphal arch and views over the Tagus River.

You will then head back to Rossio Square on the pedestrian street Rua Augusta. Walk to Praça dos Restauradores at the beginning of Avenida da Liberdade. There you can admire a variety of buildings in Art Nouveau and Art Deco style, such as the old Hotel Avenida Palace, Hotel Eden, Palácio Foz, and the Hard Rock Café.

Take the Glória Funicular to the viewpoint of Sao Pedro de Alcantara and enjoy the spectacular view over the Baixa district. Visit the famous and precious church of Sao Roque (if open) with the typical Portuguese azulejo tiles and gilded wood carvings.

You will continue on through Bairro Alto to Carmo Square, where the dictatorship of the country ended on 25 April 1974. At the end of the tour you will head to the romantic district of Chiado, which was restored after the fired of 1988 and is now a meeting place for locals and tourists of all ages.
