After receiving your Tickets and Audio Guide by email from Book N Tour, Walk right into Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lisbon. Take advantage of your included audioguide to learn about how King Manuel I commissioned the monastery in 1496 to honor the Infante for his devotion to Our Lady of Faith in St. Jerome. Once inside, marvel at the Manueline or Portuguese Late Gothic architecture. Keep playing the audioguide as you move around the building to discover how the monastery of St. Mary of Belém was donated to the monks of the Order of St. Jerome, hence why it is commonly known as the Jerónimos Monastery. Hear why this site is not simply a notable work of architecture, but also an important part of Portuguese identity and culture, having also been used as a school and orphanage until 1940.

I went on a Sunday around 10am. The queue was under direct sunlight (bring water and hats), but it flowed well into the Monastery. The audio guide provided great historical and cultural details and the monastery itself was beautiful. Unfortunately I was unable to go inside the main church as ceremony was occurring. When I walk past in the early afternoon another queue was set up for the church which was just as long (I didn’t bother). Overall definitely something you have to see in Lisbon. Especially when in Belem

We did our self-guided tour late in the afternoon, which I would recommend. The content is informative, but since the entrance was located elsewhere than where the audio tour began, it did take some figuring out. It is worth it, however, for anyone who wants the flexibility to explore on your own.
