What to Expect
Learn about the rich history of Lisbon on a guided half-day tour by bus. You will visit Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, Jerónimos Monastery, the Coach Museum, and cultural squares in the city.
You'll receive an enlightening survey of gorgeous Lisbon. Making your way to the Belém quarter, you'll discover this jewel in Lisbon's crown. Located where the Tagus River meets the Atlantic, Belém is the launching point for Portugal's 15th- and 16th-century maritime explorations.
Situated amongst modern exhibits and busy cafes are historical sites and monuments that defined an empire. Visit Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and icon of the Age of Discovery, as well as the Monument to the Discoveries.
Next, you'll be awed by the masterful Manueline architecture of Jerónimos Monastery, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby you'll find the Coach Museum, housing the most important collection of old carriages in the world. Since they're closed on Mondays, on this day of the week these 2 stops will be replaced by a visit to the extravagant Ajuda National Palace, one of the earliest neoclassical buildings in Lisbon, fronted by 23 marble statues.
Continue along the river to the traditional district of Alfama. Walk its narrow streets to a handicraft shop for a port wine tasting. Passing by downtown Baixa, you can admire the most important squares of Lisbon: Trade, Rossio, and Restauradores. Then drive along the Avenida da Liberdade, the 'boulevard' of Lisbon, to finish at Pombal Square.
