Take the second circuit to delve into European Art from the beginning of the 11th century to the mid-20th century, with sections devoted to the Art of the Book, Sculpture, Painting, Decorative Arts, and the work of René Lalique, Calouste Gulbenkian close friend. Begin the European Art circuit with works in ivory and illuminated manuscripts, followed by a selection of 15th, 16th and 17th-century sculptures and paintings. Explore the French 18th-century decorative arts collection with its outstanding gold and silver objects and furniture, as well as paintings and sculptures. Continue your journey through art history with a group of paintings by the Venetian painter Francesco Guardi, 18th and 19th-century English paintings. Such a beautiful museum for a great price! You can see exhibit and art from all over the world, and I’m really a fan of the ancient art. They also have a nice tranquil garden outside to walk around and relax. The gift shop has great options with reasonable prices unlike many others.

The museum was quite magical. It did not have a particularly large collection but almost every piece was spectacular . We were there on a Sunday and the museum offers free access after 2pm so we also enjoyed the Giacometti/ Rui Chaves and Modern Collections that would normally have cost extra. The cafeteria was great value and then a wander around the marvellous gardens was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

The Gulbenkian is a beautiful museum. We really enjoyed a hot Lisbon morning in the air conditioning looking at curious artifacts and artworks from the collection. Definitely recommend. When we arrived we just swapped our QR code for tickets at the desk. Very easy and no queue.
