What to Expect
After crossing the Tejo River from Lisbon, you’ll head to Fonte da Telha, home to an old fishing village. Learn about the traditional way of life of fisherman and their fishing techniques, on a beach surrounded by cliffs and pine forests.

Continuing on your 7-hour tour, you’ll travel along the coast to the Arrábida Mountains, where you’ll take in breathtaking views of the Sado estuary, listed as one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Drive down from the mountains to the city of Setúbal, and explore the Livramento Market, established in 1930.

The market has been rated as one of the world’s best fish markets. Its distinctive tiled walls are called azulejos, comprising 5,700 decorative tile pieces, and covering an area of around 1,259 square feet. The tiles depict scenes of everyday local activities such as fishing and farming. There’s an assortment of local seafood laid out on the counters so you can see what the actual fish look like.

Sardines are a favorite at the market. According to the Portuguese National Tourist Office, 13 sardines are consumed per second in Portugal during the month of June.

Have lunch at a typical family run restaurant, where you’ll enjoy a delicious, traditional Mediterranean meal.

After lunch and before heading back to Lisbon, you’ll stop to taste a special liqueur, made according to a 400-year-old recipe, and only found in this region. You’ll also have the opportunity to taste regional Azeitão cheese, homemade bread, and a selection of sweets as well.
