In the Alentejo region, Évora and Monsaraz are must visit UNESCO World Heritage sites. Visit the Old Cathedral, Chapel of the Bones, Roman Temple, medieval villages, wine tasting, fantastic gastronomy (maybe the best) and a pottery experience.
What to Expect
Leaving Lisbon early in the morning, you will go south to the Alentejo Region where you can travel through the history, heritage and nature. On your way to Évora, the main city located inside the walls, visit Arraiolos where the famous handmade rugs were born. As you enter Évora, you will feel the medieval and the historical city around you. S. Francisco Church with the chapel of the bones, the main square Giraldo ("Giraldo without fear" the man who conquered Évora from the Muslims), the magnificent Old Cathedral (XII Century), was at the same time a church and a fortress. Nearby you will find the Roman Temple (I Century). After this, the wine and gastronomy part of the tour will take place during your lunch.
In the afternoon travel to Monsaraz, a historical medieval village inside a castle on the top of the hill, near the Spanish border. In the middle of the way, you will stop by a pottery village where you can see the potter working the clay. In Monsaraz, you will visit the castle and the small coliseum with the best view. A wine tasting from a local wine producer is also included.
This fantastic day trip will finish with your arrival to Lisbon around 8:00 pm.
