Full description
Following a pick-up at your hotel in Lisbon, you’ll travel in an air-conditioned, 8-seat vehicle to the Fatima Sanctuary. Learn about the miracle of the apparition of the Virgin to local shepherd children in 1917.  Next, your 8-hour tour moves west to the coast, with a stop at Batalha to visit the Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most fascinating Gothic monuments in Europe. King John I of Portugal built the monastery to give thanks to the Virgin Mary over a battle against Spanish troops in 1385. After lunch, you’ll visit Sítio, a clifftop village that offers some of the best views in Portugal. From high on the cliffs surrounding Nazaré, you’ll learn about the legend of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré. The statue of Our Lady of Nazaré is one of the oldest Christian art pieces. Continuing on, you’ll fall in love with the colorful, romantic village of Obidos. Its winding streets and medieval structures, castle walls and handicraft shops make this stop the highlight of the trip for many people. You’ll have the opportunity here to taste the typical liquor of this region known as ginjinha, or simply ginja.

Debrah was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and she created a wonderful atmosphere of knowledge & history. I was particularly excited about visiting Batalha, and she gave us a little extra time so that I could buy a ticket to visit the other parts of the cathedral, and it was really a dream come true. She had a perfect balance of discussing the place we were in and letting us explore on our own.

Fun day trip outside of Lisbon. Small group of 7, so easy to hear the guide and easy to herd. Wish we could have gone into the lower part of Nazare. Spent too much time for lunch (2 hrs!) at Batalha at an expensive and not very good restaurant. We would have preferred to take away some savory pastries from the shop below and eaten on a bench - definitely a quicker, tastier and cheaper alternative!

Better than Expected

Daniel was early to pick us up for our tour and was very positive and enthusiastic. He was an excellent driver and also was able to keep everyone in the van involved. We had our 6 year old son with us and he made sure to make him feel special and part of the group. Daniel spoke english and portuguese so he was able to translate everything into both languages. We had some people with us from Brazil and Columbia. Daniel gave us information about the various sites and then allowed us freedom to explore them on our own with specific times to meet back together. We got to see more than I expected and it was a very fun trip. I highly recommend it as a way to explore some special places near Lisbon, Portugal.
