We visit the calming city of Fatima with its churches and basilica, along with the warm sandy beaches of Nazare, and the medieval cities of Batalha and Obidos. The day will excite you with its diversity!
What to Expect
You lower your eyes, and take in the religious iconography around you. Fatima is famous for the religious visions that reportedly took place here in 1917, and your day here will be filled with a sense of devotion for the Catholic faith. Even if you are not-religious, this tour is sure to delight with its history.
On this tour to the holy site of Fatima, you will have the chance to visit the Chapel of the Apparitions, the church of the Holy Trinity, and the basilica where the tombs of the three little shepherds lay. We also visit Batalha, a small town of approximately 7,500 inhabitants located in the Batalha Municipality. It is an important piece of Portuguese history, as it was here that the Battle of Aljubarrota (August 14, 1385) was fought that brought an end to the two year war that proceeded it.
After spending some time in Batalha, we will visit Nazaré, a traditional fishing village that boasts a picturesque seaside village along the Atlantic coast. Its long sandy beaches are considered by some to be the best in Portugal, and you will soon discover why. Here fishermen still wear traditional costumes, and the color of the townsfolks and the beauty of the beach will surely enchant you during our time here.
Finally we visit the fortified village of Obidos, one of the most spectacularly preserved walled cities in Portugal. Its tall white walls will charm you, and the medieval streets will warm your heart as you stroll through, smelling fresh fish cooking over open coal fires and women hanging out of their windows watching the passers by. Our day together will end here.
