Full description

Get entrance tickets to Jerónimos monastery, a national monument classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and located near the city of Lisbon. Learn about how King Manuel I commissioned the monastery in 1496 to honor the Infante for his devotion to Our Lady and faith in St. Jerome.

Once inside, marvel at the Manueline or Portuguese Late Gothic architecture. Discover how the monastery of St. Mary of Belém was donated to the monks of the Order of St. Jerome. For this reason, it is commonly known as the Jerónimos Monastery.

In 1833, when the order was dissolved, the monastery was used as a school and orphanage until 1940. In the 19th century, the church became the monument for local heroes and poets such as Luís de Camões and Vasco da Gama.

Come and discover what is not simply a notable work of architecture, but also an important part of Portuguese identity and culture.

Beautiful but long lines if you don’t go very early before it opens. Great to see if you get there early. We did and enjoyed it and got to the Belem pastelria early too. All worked out. Didn’t wait in the line for the tower. Loved getting out on the river and hearing the history.

It was a great experience. Easy to purchase ticket and access on day of entry on Get-Your-Guide app. Cost of entry to monastery was very reasonable. Our entry was for 9:30am. We arrived at 9am and glad we did because there was already a long line for entry, so get there early! In hindsight, we should have arrived super duper early, and spent at least 1 hour directly across the street at the gardens. Then queque up f9r the monastery. Important note: the ticket to the monastery DOES NOT give you entry to the cathedral. That's a separate ticket and a whole other line to stand in. It's a totally separate day trip.

Stunning monastery cloister that highlights Baroque architecture and the opulence that was Portugal due to the spice trade. Great opportunity for stunning pictures and history. There are two levels, each with their own perspective. Highly recommend for anyone in Lisbon/Belem.
