Full description

Get entrance tickets to Jerónimos monastery, a national monument classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and located near the city of Lisbon. Learn about how King Manuel I commissioned the monastery in 1496 to honor the Infante for his devotion to Our Lady and faith in St. Jerome.

Once inside, marvel at the Manueline or Portuguese Late Gothic architecture. Discover how the monastery of St. Mary of Belém was donated to the monks of the Order of St. Jerome. For this reason, it is commonly known as the Jerónimos Monastery.

In 1833, when the order was dissolved, the monastery was used as a school and orphanage until 1940. In the 19th century, the church became the monument for local heroes and poets such as Luís de Camões and Vasco da Gama.

Come and discover what is not simply a notable work of architecture, but also an important part of Portuguese identity and culture.

One of the symbolic monuments of Lisbon. Too bad there is no skip the line. One line for all those who have already bought the ticket (online or at the ticket office). No indication of the presence of the ticket office before the last 10 meters of the line on the south side of the building (ticket office is located on the north side of the building).

Since we were also confused: there is a ticket counter and an entrance that covers the monastery/cloister and church at the same time. The church itself is free. With the ticket you save yourself the ticket purchase, but you have to queue for entry. Monastery itself is quite interesting. Definitely worth a visit.

Queue for an hour outside even if you bought the tickets in advance… This ticket only allows you to avoid the short queue to buy the tickets, but not to enter. once inside, however, the monastery is very pretty and you don't really feel the amount of people. Bridgerton atmosphere.
