From Split: Private Tour to Plitvice Lakes National Park

6. From Split: Private Tour to Plitvice Lakes National Park

This day tour of Plitvice lakes from Split is a perfect tour for all staying in Split and trying to make the most of their holiday in Croatia. Plitvice National Park was founded in 1949 and became famous during the 1960s and 1970s through several Western film productions of Karl May novels. Many scenes were shot at the lakes or waterfalls. The geographic position of the Plitvice Lakes and the specific climate features contributed to the emergence of many natural phenomena and a rich biodiversity within this area. Despite the vicinity to the Mediterranean, a moderate mountainous climate prevails due to the Velebit mountain range, which acts as a climatic separator between the coastal and continental region. For centuries, legends have been created about these mythical lakes, rivers and waterfalls. According to one legend, inhabitants of the region were craving water and called upon the magic queen to help them, which she did by creating the Plitvice lakes. The availability of water has a great impact on the biodiversity of this area. The forested mountain slopes serve as water reservoirs and as a refuge for many animal species. The wider area of the national park is one of the last areas in Europe where wolves and brown bears can be found. About 50 species of mammals and 321 different species of butterflies live in this region. Explore the hidden pathways of Plitvice.

Great day out! Very easy instructions to find the start point, there are a couple of rafting companies all in the same area but we were told to follow the green sign with the indian in a boat. Immedietly met by a member of the team who checked us in and told us what to do next. We were provided with wetsuits and the team gave guidance on what to take in the waterproof bucket, all other belongings were left in the car. Definitely take yourself a sandwich or snack as there is a half way point where you stop to eat. At the end fruit and drinks are provided which is lovely. One member of each party travels back to the start in a minibus to get the car and then come back to get you, this takes approx 40minutes so just be prepared for waiting around. Good phone signal in the area. There are changing rooms and toilets at both the start and end.

It was an amazing trip. The crew is really friendly and kind. Make sure to take diving mask with you to check out the sinked WW2 ship in that beautiful bay. We had 1,5 hours in Rab town, and it felt like some minutes only, it’s really worth a visit again for me. The lunch was great. Keep in mind that you need to notify the ship crew before the trip about the kind of food menu you would like to have on deck, we forgot it, but they were helpful and got us what we asked to eat. I took some drone shots and the captain asked me if he can have the photos later. They are really kind. :) Overall it’s a really nice experiece if you want to check out some nice places close to Pag Island.

Elena & Dino as well as the driver that took us back to zagreb were great. We took a bus to the lakes ( 3h drive with a 20min stop for breakfast), spent 4h in the lakes, it was amazing, elena is a great guide with a sarcastic sense of humor. She took amazing pictures of me as i was a solo traveler and explained not only the history and names of the lakes but also detailed the history of all the place we drove by from split to Croatia in general. The trip back to zagreb was on a nice car as they were only two of us and the driver was kind enough to drive us to our hotels. Really great experience !

Very nice boat tour in a very clean ship with enough space. The boat was not crowded and there was good space. Drinks were available for purchase on the ship itself. The guide was very experienced and the whole crew was very nice. The time was kept almost on time and the stops are optimally chosen. We did the tour with two children and it was a great and unforgettable trip.

Very good, the nice guides and the very pleasant kayak course. We had a great time in beautiful landscapes
