What People Are Saying About Library of Congress
Took the Monuments Tour by Night with 2 adults and 2 twelve-year-olds. All agreed that this was the best thing we did in DC (on a trip which included tours of the White House, Capitol, FBI, Bureau of Engraving, Washington Monument, and Mount Vernon, as well as Arlington National Cemetary, the Marines Sunset Parade, the National Zoo, and the Smithsonian Air & Space, American History, and Natural History Museums). We got to see all the monuments by bicycle, which was a welcome change from all the walking. The ride was not hard, and even our novice rider had no difficulty keeping up. Our tour guide (Tujon) was both knowledgeable and entertaining, and he went out of his way to engage the children (calling them by name etc.) and keep them interested. This tour made visiting the monuments (which might otherwise be boring for children) the highlight of the trip.
From the guiding call that led us to the site (there are four stations for L'enFant Plaza, so beware that) to the quick setup when we arrived to the very knowing tour by Rob, who knew a great deal about the sites we were visiting and the city's history in general, this tour was big fun and zero hassle. You can be in mediocre to cruddy shape. It's not the Tour de Capital - it's a tour of the capital's best, and it's well-organized and well-supported. Ride On.
I booked this tour to experience the monuments in the most interesting way which would appeal to all the family and it was a highlight of our trip to USA.I would recommend it particularly if you are in Washington for a short time like us.
The ride at night was excellent as the sun set and the lights were on the monuments. The crowds were smaller than during the day. The tour guides explained the the monuments and sights very well. They also took care to make sure the ride was safe for all of the variety of level of riders and for the pedestrians along the way. The whole family loved it and would recommend it to anyone.
Our DC city planner tour guide created a tour and conversation about the places we visited with well timed stops in between happy peddling on wide open side-walks. We were engaged, safe and learning in the evening twilight of a most beautiful city- a pleasant memory that replaces hot, tired, crowded, boring family monument visits!
