Chengdu's Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is home to over 80 of China's iconic pandas. Most are of the familiar black and white variety, but the Base is also home to a number of the smaller, lesser-known red pandas. You'll view the animals eating and at play in a carefully maintained habitat that is as close to their natural environment as possible. You'll also learn how scientists and ecologists are working to protect the few remaining wild pandas and expand the captive population. On that last note, over 100 bears have been born at the Base since 1987. The Base became even more important after the Sichuan earthquake of 2008, with eight bears sent here from the badly damaged Wolong reserve. Your visit provides both moral and financial support for the ongoing conservation effort. Experience the Giant Buddha of Leshan, one of Chinese Buddhism's holiest sites, on this amazing full-day tour from Chengdu. Dating from the 8th century, the Giant Buddha of Leshan is the largest carved stone Buddha and the tallest pre-modern statue in the world. It was cut from the cliffs of Lingyun Shan in the hopes of calming the turbulent waters of the three rivers that flow together under its gaze. Stairs are carved into the cliff that connect the area at the Buddha's feet with the land above, allowing you to view this astonishing sight from a range of vantage points. Views are stunning over elbows and knees, taking in the river scene and Leshan's skyline. Upon arrival in Leshan, we have lunch at a restaurant within sight the Giant Buddha. We'll boat along the waters below to admire the view before climbing above. We'll then explore the Giant Buddha and enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding landscape from atop the Buddha's head. Wen then pay a visit to Lingyun Temple and Museum and get a deeper insight into the history of this amazing Buddhist site and learn the story of the carving of the Giant Buddha.

In the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and be transferred to the Panda Breeding and Research Center, a dwelling home to over 100 giant pandas. We will arrive here at about8:00 a.m. when most of them are active. It is a perfect time to observe their living habits when they do different things--eating, snoozing, tumbling and climbing trees. There are also panda kindergartens and nursery rooms, where you can see many adorable baby pandas. Afterwards, make our way to Leshan Giant Buddha. Leshan Giant Buddha enjoys a total height of 71 meters and boasts the reputation of the “NO.1 Buddha under Heaven”. It is constructed to bless the boatmen and enjoys a history of over 1,300 years. Besides climbing to the mountain top to have a closer look of the Giant Buddha, we will chose go on a cruise to catch a panoramic view of the majestic Buddha statue. After your sightseeing in Leshan, you will be transferred back to Chengdu.

Then spend some leisure time to experience rural life at Huanglongxi Ancient Town. Huanglongxi Ancient town, with over 1700 years of history, still retains its rustic charm with ancient buildings and old folklore custom. Features ancient culture of water, Buddhism and tea, as well as the ecologic farming culture integrated with colorful folklore culture, screen culture and cooking culture. Being a national film and television photography base, it is also called Film City and Chinese Hollywood. Besides, it was The Home of Tea and The Ancient Tea Horse Road in the ancient times on account of its long experience of growing tea. Follow your tour guide to explore the ancient town. Check out three temples at the Main Street. Admire over 1000-year old banyan trees in the old town. Taste various snacks(at your own cost) such as One-strand-noodle, Sesame Pudding, Crisp Pork Legs, Yellow Catfish, Pearl Tofu Pudding; and shopping for your special souvenir at the market, your guide will give tips on how to negotiate price. After your fun tour finished, you will be transferred to your hotel in Chengdu.

Leshan Grand Buddha was listed as the World Natural and Cultural heritage by UNESCO in 1996. Leshan Giant Buddha, the largest stone sculpture of Buddha in the world, sits at the confluence of the Minjiang river, Dadu river and Qingyi river. It has been very well preserved during the past 1,200 years. The project was built in China's Tang Dynasty, for the huge quantities, totally, it took 90 years to complete the Buddha Statue. As tall as 71 meters, the Buddha Statue occupies a whole mountain cliff facing the conjunction point of 3 rivers, hence there is a proverb passed down generation by generation that"the Buddha is a mountain and the mountain is a Buddha". The guide will pick you up at your hotel/hostel lobby in the morning, then start driving to Leshan Grand Buddha. It is a ride of 2 hours by the expressway; sightseeing the beautiful rural scene of Western Sichuan Plain while driving on the way. The rice fields, vegetable greenhouses, grape garden and tea plants are laid out along the expressway. Reach Leshan Giant Buddha at noon, after having lunch we will visit the Giant Buddha Statue. First, walk hundreds of steps to the head part of the Grand Buddha, taking pictures while you stand at the level of the Buddha statue's shoulders; then walk down to the feet of the buddha by the narrow cliff path; take a full view of the Buddha statue; finally, walk up to the mountain top again and finish the sightseeing; drive back to your hotel/hostel in Chengdu, end the tour.
