Full description
Experience during this unique tour through Leipzig the most important sights and the most beautiful places of downtown which can only be discovered on foot, as well as the most well-known areas of the city and highlights. Our certified tour guide awaits you in the heart of the city at the new Katharinum (Tourist Information) to take you on an entertaining and informative tour which begins with a stroll through downtown. In addition to the famous Nikolai Church, the beautiful Specks Hof Passage, the small Snack Market and the market with Old Rathaus, you can expect landmarks of the city like the Mädler Passage with the Auerachs Cellar, Barthels Hof and the Thomas Church. After about an hour it continues in an air-conditioned tour bus to the highlights of Leipzig located outside of the city ring. In the exlusive Gohlis quarter two cultural sites draw the attention of visitors: an architectural jewel is the Gohlis castle, which was constructed as the bourgeois summer residence in the middle of the 18th Century. Very close by is the Schiller House, a modest farm house in which Friedrich Schiller lived in 1785 for several months and worked on "Ode to Joy". through the exclusive Waldstraßen Quarter and past the Red Bull Arena we arrive in the constantly-changing Plagwitz city section, with canals, galleries and lofts. Cosy in green and with impressive villas the music district begins. The Federal Administrative Court is operating since 2002 in the impressive building of the former Reich Court. The way leads through the lively southern suburb past the popular Panometer to one of the well-known sites in Leipzig, the Battle of Nations Monument. The return trip to the city via the Old Market, the German Square and past the Bavarian Train Station leads to the Augustusplatz, where our tour ends. Three significant cultural institutions which decisively determine the image of the city are located here: the New Concert Hall, the University and the Opera.

First of all we had a walking tour of about one hour through the center of Leipzig which already was intense in terms of the explanations given by the guide as Leipzig has a huge history not only of its own but also by the many famous poets, musicians and other famous people that lived, studied or worked in the town. After our walk the two groups which were formed at the beginning meat again to take the bus tour to see the wider area of the center of Leipzig. Our guide here was as instructive and knowledgeable as the first one, and in the 1.5 hours of bus tour she spoke without interruption telling us about the buildings and people that lived and formed the town. It would have been nice to have maybe stopped here and there to take some pictures, but in the short time we had this was not possible. Anyway this combo tour is definitely worth its money and gives you and excellent impression of town and people for you to explore later by foot.

Excellent

Our guide was very good, and spoke English perfectly. The information she provided was interesting and useful. The coach part of the tour took us to very interesting parts of the city that we otherwise would not have seen and the walking tour provided an excellent orientation to the city centre. Highly recommended.

Very informative 2.5 hour tour

Short walking tour got us thru most of the sights in the old town then the tour bus thru the suburbs was very interesting. Got to see some interesting parts of Leipzig along waterways that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. Got to make it back to those spots after the tour was over. Tour guide was very good switching back and forth between English and German.
