SHEY MONASTERY
Your Trip starts with a visit to the Shey Monastery which Situated inside the premises of Shey Palace.
It is one of the popular Buddhist monastery. It is also known as Shey Gompa.
The monastery is used to be the summer retreat of the royal family of Ladakh. . The main attraction is the Shey Palace, a large structure built atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The palace houses a giant golden statue of Lord Buddha, which is one of the largest such statues in Ladakh.
THIKSEY MONASTERY
After visit Shey Monastery, then drive to Thiksey Gompa.
Thiksay monastery is a gompa of Tibetan Buddhism religion. It is located on the top of the hill. It is very famous for its similarity with Potala Palace of Lhasa. This monastery is famous for pilgrim activities, architectural elements, sightseeing and exploration. The monastery has an interesting anecdote of how it was built in this exact location.
HEMIS MONASTERY
Later drive to Hemis Monastery is the most popular monastery and tourist attraction in Ladakh. Hemis is tucked on a mountain on the west bank of the serene River Indus. And it is is renowned for its annual Hemis Festival, which celebrates the birth anniversary of Guru Rinpoche.
The monastery belongs to Dugpa Kargyutpa order or Red Sect of Buddhism and is said to be enriched with a large number of Thangkas or paintings, which are exhibited during the Hemis Festival.
