This is an excellent way to get to see Masaya volcano (which is currently closed to hikes due to detected activity) and to understand the landscape, history of the region and its people. Gustavo was our guide and his knowledge of all of Central American volcanoes was superb. We walked around the area at the base where lava had flowed. We went to the Masaya information centre to learn more about this volcano and some history of the region. The artisan market in Masaya town was a nice stop, the vendors didn’t hassle us which was a relief. We really enjoyed the traditional pottery demonstration and ended up buying some lovely pieces (not so expensive). All in all Gustavo delivered a varied, educational, knowledgeable tour and would highly recommend.

Pablo was a really great guide and was very knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area. We took the early morning kayak tour and it was gorgeous seeing the sun rise on the water. We saw so many animals and we were the first ones in the lake. Definitely worth the early wake up call and I recommend doing this early morning kayak tour because you can get up close to the wildlife without the animals getting scared from too many people and the sounds of too many boats. We even managed to see a family of wild Howler monkeys and their babies. Definitely an amazing experience and thank you so much Pablo for being a fabulous guide and bringing that watermelon to have as breakfast on the kayaks!
