Travel the Golden Circle of Iceland by Jeep and see some of the nation’s most spectacular phenomenon. Depart from Reykjavik and drive to Thingvellir National Park, where Iceland’s ancient parliament was situated. Hike through the area to experience the dramatic mid-Atlantic ridge, before heading eastbound on the mountain road to Lyngdalsheiði. Your reward will be sublime views of the lava fields on the hills above Laugarvatn. As you drive to Haukadalur, look out for the famous Strokkur Geyser, which erupts every 5 to 7 minutes, spewing boiling water into the air to heights of 80 to 100 feet (25 to 30 meters). Explore the hot springs, before heading up to the magnificent cascades of Gullfoss Waterfall, plummeting into the white Hvita River along with glacial water. Drive to the start of the Kjölur mountain road. You will be approaching Iceland’s second largest glacier, Langjökull, where you can take optional activities, such as snowmobile rides, depending on weather conditions and the time of year. In the afternoon, make your way through the agricultural headland of southwest Iceland, through small settlements. Visit the hot springs town of Hveragerði if there’s time, before reaching Hellisheiði Plateau, one final wonder of Mother Nature on the way back to Reykjavik.

Drive across the summit of Iceland on a 9-hour scenic tour and see some of the nation’s most austere inland roads. Departing from Reykjavik in a Mountain Taxi Super Jeep, make your way towards Kaldidalur (Cold Valley), traveling alongside the western part of the Langjökull Glacier. Pause to get up close to this miracle of Mother Nature, and then veer north to stop at a lava cave named Surtshellir. Centuries ago, caves like Surtshellir were inhabited by outlaws! Today, they are simply breathtaking examples of nature at work. Feel the spray of the Hraunfossar waterfalls on your face as you watch them flowing into the glacial River Hvita from beneath tree-covered lava fields. Next, the tour drives through the historic site of Reykholt, home to Iceland’s famous chieftain and historian Snorri Sturluson. Sturluson wrote some of his greatest literature in the age of saga before he was murdered near the hot springs that are well preserved, and still used. Finally, visit Deildartunguhver, the largest and most powerful hot springs in the Northern Hemisphere, and a source of much of western Iceland’s heating needs. Your trip wraps up in Reykjavik, but not before driving alongside the scenic and colorful Hvalfjordur Fjord.
