You will have started early to avoid the heat of the sun, but by the time you reach the end of the second section you will have generated plenty of your own heat. This hike is not an easy hike, but is achievable by people of average fitness. Your guide will accompany you all the way to the top. The whole tour is only about 8–9 kilometers long but very steep, so that the round-trip from the park gate to Longonot Peak takes around 4 hours. At the conclusion of your tour you will have an optional visit to Lake Naivasha for a sunset boat ride to see hippos, before your return drive to Nairobi with drop-off at your hotel or airport.

This trip was great, good value for money and two interesting excursions. The bike ride was 8k through Hells Gate to a gorge seeing animals en route, then a gorge walk and an 8k ride back. The ride back was relatively rough given heat and a little up hill! We paid the extra for the boat ride and it was worth it. We were expecting to maybe see a few birds but there is an island full of animals and we got close to hippos. Only feedback would be that we knew lunch wasn’t included, and that was fine, but we thought it odd we got taken to a buffet place where there was limited option and we weren’t told the price until after. There appeared to be a restaurant right next door where we could order what we wanted from a menu which we would have preferred. I think this was because someone else on the trip booked through another platform were lunch was included and therefore they just took us to the buffet too.

This was a very worthwhile tour! Cycling through a national park offers a completely different experience to going in a van, and we thoroughly enjoyed the more relaxing pace and feeling more ‘at one’ with the wildlife. Charles, our cycling guide, could not have been better - he even provided a tandem bicycle as one of our group was having difficulty with the normal bikes. The afternoon boat tour on Lake Naivasha is optional, but I strongly recommend doing it. As well as loads of birds, we got to see a hippo emerge from the water about ten metres away from our boat - an unforgettable sight! The journey to Hell’s Gate was smooth and enjoyable, and our overall guide for the day (Peter) was very well-organised, pleasant and interesting. An excellent tour in all respects!

I did enjoy this trip really much; firstly Mesheck was a great driver and amazing person; He picked me up exactly on time from the hotel; the first part of the trip was biking through Hell’s Gate, this was a great activity, because I enjoy some physical excercise but also because you ride through the valley where you pass several animals including giraffes and zebras. The valley is full os great rock formations; then we had some lubch and right after it there was a boat ride through Lake Naivasha, and this was really awesome, you get next to several birds species but also other animals like hippos; I recommend this trip to everyone

The excursion was nice overall. The driver and guide were punctual and we arrived soon enough to the place. We could eat at a place that was a bit too touristic but otherwise we could visit Hell’s gate national park and Naivasha Lake during the day. I recommend !
