Full description

Spend the day in the lovely landscapes of Central Europe’s largest freshwater lake on a full-day tour of Lake Balaton. Depart from Budapest and travel by air-conditioned bus to the beautiful town of Balatonfüred. Located on the north coast of Lake Balaton, the town is famously referred to as the capital city of the lake. You can experience an overview of city first by taking a short trip by “nostalgia train” around the area as well as a 1-hour cruise on Lake Balaton. Afterwards, you will have some free time to take a stroll along the picturesque promenade and enjoy some lunch (not included). Later on, drive to the “Tihany Peninsula” to see why it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is rich with architecture and vineyards that produce excellent quality wine. Get a unique view of Lake Balaton from the hilltop before going to the Abbey of Tihany, founded in 1055 by the Hungarian King “András”. Transfer back to Budapest by air-conditioned bus, the tour ends at Hotel Intercontinental Budapest.

Es war eine sehr schöne Tagestour an den Balaton. Wir wurden per Shuttle (Taxi) vom Hotel abgeholt und zum eigentlichen Treffpunkt gebracht. Wir hatten eine deutschsprachige Reisebegleitung mit an Bord, die alles super erklärt hat. Von der Halbinsel Tihany bis hin zum Balaton, hatten wir sämtliche Infos und Tips für ein leckeres Mittagessen. Alles in allem eine sehr strukturierte Tour, die richtig viel Spaß gemacht hat.

Once we got there....a good drive with the bus to get there....we did not have a lot of time to visit places. Took already half an hour to go to the bathroom before moving on a half an hour later. Our guide Hélèn was not always that nice.....people asked questions and she just ignored them. She has an annoying voice to listen to, does not speak clear English so it is not easy to understand her. We also had her as a guide on the RiverRide Bus.....lucky us !!! Having a good guide is very important....it makes or break your tour. It is a very beautiful area but to make it as a daytrip is not enough time. Better to go there by car and ride around for a few days. Thats is really worth it. Also make sure you have CASH with you. You can not pay there with your card....not even in a restaurant. One little shop we had to leave without buying something and when the owner of the shop saw that, she pulled a little bank machine card out. They want cash...so they do not pay taxes....very obvious.

Der Ausflug war sehr gut organisiert, ich wurde pünktlich abgeholt, die Tour ging pünktlich los und alle Programmpunkte wurden wie angekündigt eingehalten. Tihany war schön, toller Ausblick und freie Zeit reichte locker um alles zu sehen. Gerne die Lavendeleiscreme testen! In Balatonfüred gibt es nicht viel zu sehen, daher eine Stunde Freizeit absolut ausreichend für ein Mittagessen. Die Bootsfahrt war eher langweilig, es gibt nichts groß zu sehen und die Fahrt mit dem „Nostalgiezug“ braucht man auch nicht unbedingt. Trotzdem ein schöner Tag und für Leute die noch nie am Balaton waren zu empfehlen!
