Laguna Charquini

Your adventure begins bright and early, gathering at the designated meeting point, setting the stage for a journey to Nevado Charquini, an emblematic mountain in the Andes standing at 5390 meters above sea level. From here, your guide leads you on a travel filled with captivating vistas, unfolding over approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The route is dotted with charming stops, allowing you to marvel at the spectacular views of Huayna Potosi, Chacaltaya, Lake Titicaca, alongside glimpses of a mining cemetery and the rich biodiversity of the area. Upon arrival at Charquini, you embark on the heart of your expedition, a trek that spans roughly 3 hours, with the duration tailored to the group’s pace and size. This path guides you through the rugged beauty of the Andes, drawing you closer to the day’s zenith, the mesmerizing Laguna Esmeralda. Known for its mineral-rich, crystal-clear waters, the lagoon mirrors the vast blue sky and the encircling mountains, creating a breathtaking tableau of natural splendor. It's here, at the shores of Laguna Esmeralda, that you pause, immersing yourself in the tranquil beauty and serene landscapes that define this region. The adventure, while challenging, does not include an ascent to the snow-capped summit but focuses on the journey to the lagoon itself, offering a rewarding experience of hiking and contemplation amid stunning landscapes. As the day unfolds, the trek back to the starting point marks the conclusion of your journey, aiming for a return by approximately 4:00 p.m., enriched by the unforgettable sights and experiences of Nevado Charquini and Laguna Esmeralda.

Charquini stands at 5,390 meters (17,650 feet) above sea level, located in the La Paz department of Bolivia. It is one of the most accessible mountains to enjoy snow during the rainy season and to take in the beauty of the surrounding peaks. This tour offers a two-hour hike uphill, followed by a one-and-a-half-hour descent. It is recommended for acclimatizing and getting some light exercise. On this one-day tour, we will reach 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) at the Emerald Lagoon on the southern face of the mountain. Itinerary 8:00 a.m. – Hotel pick-up in downtown La Paz 8:30 a.m. – Departure towards Charquini Along the way, we will stop for photos at: Apacheta Pass Colorful Lagoon Milluni Cemetery 10:30 a.m. – Arrival at the base of Charquini Trek to the glacier and Emerald Lagoon We will enjoy a spectacular view of the Emerald Lagoon and the snow-capped Charquini. Afterwards, we will descend back to the vehicle. 3:30 p.m. – Arrival back in La Paz, Bolivia.

We will start very early in the morning with pick-ups from central points in the city of La Paz, and then embark on the trip to Charquini, having a journey of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, in which you will be able to appreciate various landscapes of the Andes Mountains, at the same time as the local llamas that walk around... you will also visit the mysterious and chilling Milluni cemetery, where you can have a photo session with the background of the niches and the mountains that surround this place. We will continue our trip to the Charquini base camp, where we will get ready for the ascent to the mountain with a subsequent visit to the Esmeralda lagoon, in which you will have the necessary time to enjoy the landscapes and the beautiful panorama of the snow-capped mountains...
