Lagoa das Empadadas

Get off the usual tourist trail on a 3-hour 4WD tour of the Sete Cidades (Seven Cities) region of the Azores island of São Miguel, departing from Ponta Delgada. Traveling by 4WD vehicle, you will experience the dramatic scenery of the volcanic crater and its flora and fauna in a more immersive fashion.  Drive to the mountain top to look down on the 2 impressive lakes of the caldera (basin), one with blue water (Lagoa Azul) and the other with green water (Lagoa Verde). Along the way, take in many other picturesque spots of São Miguel, including the peaceful lakes of Lagoa das Empadadas, Lagoa de Santiago, and Lagoa do Carvão.  Enjoy stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, volcanic cones, and stretches of green, and go to villages that have played a vital role in the story of the island.

Your tour starts at Ponta Delgada with a safety briefing about the vehicles and how to manage them. You need to present to the guide your drivers license and credit card for the deposit. We have available 2 different itineraries Sete Cidades or Coast to Coast in Ribeira Grande and the full day or half day option. -Sete Cidades: drive around the crater witch was a volcano thar creates itself. Driving around the landscapes are unbreathing, stunning. The crater from one side and the ocean from the other side. You will also have the chance to drive down to the village and be involved directly with the nature. -Coast to Coast in Ribeira Grande: drive near the coast of Ribeira Grande next to the option. Then you will drive into small off-road trails and in the middle of the nature. Feel the adrenaline and feel yourself insie the adventure.

We great this amazing guided tour, to visit the most beautiful places in the top of volcano crater of "Sete Cidades" all around of this area in the island of São Miguel from Azores. On this guided tour we will use a van with a maximum of space for 8 people, comfortable with plenty of space and with all the necessary conditions for this event. For a better understanding we will describe all our guided tour, where we start to pick up, all the people at 09:00am in the Hotel or in other places where we can meet, (Please send all the information for the pick-Up, the name of the Hotel with a full address of the place). We will show you here all the names of the places we have to visit of our itinerary: (Pineapple Plantation in the Greenhouses/Viewpoint of the Pico do Carvão/Natural Park of Lagoa do Canário and Grota do Inferno/Viewpoint of the Blue and Green lakes of the Sete Cidades/Viewpoint of the Cerrado das Freiras/Center of the Sete Cidades Parish). When we finish the guided tour, we will start to return back, in a different route to change all views in the way back, to start dropping off all the people in the places they prefer in the way back.

On this full-day tour, visit the Sete Cidades Massif, a field of alkali-basalt cinder cones and lava flows, and an area very popular for its lakes and surrounding hills. Departing from Ponta Delgada, travel up the mountain top that forms the caldera of a volcano where the lakes are located. Additionally, you will visit Empadadas and Carvão lakes, which will give you the opportunity to admire the beauty of untouched nature. Learn more about how volcanic activity formed the landscape. At lunchtime, stop off at a typical restaurant in the village of Sete CIdades, where you will eat a traditional meal. Then continue on, passing Vista do Rei, one of the island's top tourist destinations. Next, head to the Mosteiros, famous for its natural swimming pools, fishing harbor, and sandy beach of black basalt. On the way back to Ponta Delgada, you will also see the hot bathing spots caused by fumaroles on the coast.

You will have the opportunity to get to know the Volcanic Complex of 7 Cidades, with amazing views to the lakes, surrounded by untouched forest. The photoshoot will occur in specific and special places, in a totally private tour, to you, your couple or family. After 7 Cidades we can go to Mosteiros region, near the shoreline for a different type of background. Regarding the transportation, I can provide up to 4 people. Otherwise, if you have your own rental car, we can also meet in a specific meetpoint and I will guide you through the rest of the tour. Also, because of the Azores has a hight rainfall rate a long the year, there is a change we can get rain. Is this situation I always advice people to bring their own light rain jackets. At the same time, do bring comfortable shoes for walking in Nature. But if you want to have a specific clothing and shoes for the photosession, don't forget to bring them as well. Start your Land Rover tour in the southeastern part of the island in the volcanic area of Sete Cidades. After the pick up in you accomodation in Ponta Delgada you´ll be driven to the volcanic complex of Sete Cidades and their beautifull lakes. From Pico do Carvão viewpoint, to Muro das Nove Janelas; Cumeeira Grande/Pico da Cruz; Sete Cidades parish and vista do Rei viewpoint, your tour is full of exciting views. After lunch, served in a local restaurant, drive toward the volcanic complex of Fogo and visit Pico da Barrosa viewpoint; Lagoa do Fogo viewpoint; Interpretation Center of Caldeira Velha; Salto do Cabrito, and Ribeira Grande city.
