Zakynthos: Island Day Trip with Turtles, Swimming, and Caves

1. Zakynthos: Island Day Trip with Turtles, Swimming, and Caves

After pickup at your hotel, head to Kalamaki beach on Zante's southern shores. Enjoy the pristine beach with soft sand and warm waters, protected by National Marine Park. See where the endangered loggerhead sea turtles nest. You may spot tiny baby turtles breaking out of their shells. Next, head to Laganas beach to board the glass-bottom boat. Sail to the Keri Caves, carved by time, tides, and wind. Follow the coastline, admiring the white beaches, rock arches, forested hills, and enormous limestone cliffs that fall into the sea. Pass through the famous rock arch, Kamara.  Stop for a 20-minute swim just outside the entrance to a vast cave. Climb back on board to head to Marathonisi, known as Turtle Island, an exotic, green, and coincidentally turtle-shaped island. Enjoy an hour on the golden sandy beach where you can swim and snorkel. Head back and pass the famous Cameo island bridge. Enjoy the idyllic views of secluded beaches surrounded by steep white limestone. Enjoy a final stop at the award-winning Aristeon ecological olive oil press museum in Lithakia. Explore the history of olive oil making on the island with experts.  Enjoy free tasters of local olives and traditional bread with different flavored extra virgin olive oils (most likely lemon, orange, and garlic). Take a sample of olive oil shampoo, soap, body cream, or face cream. You can also buy these products to support local businesses.

Zakynthos: Half-Day Trip to Marathonisi and Keri Caves

2. Zakynthos: Half-Day Trip to Marathonisi and Keri Caves

Start with pickup from your hotel and discover the highlights of the southern region of Zakynthos. The first stop will be at the Argassi Bridge which was constructed in 1885. This bridge is now situated off the coast of the island but was once a river crossing. Then, stop at Kalamaki Beach to learn about the turtle nests in the area. Next, embark on a 3-hour boat cruise from the port in the town of Laganas. Stop at the nearby island of Marathonisi where you can admire its beautiful caves and white sand beaches. Keep a look out for the Caretta turtles who inhabit the surrounding waters. Continue by sailing to the Keri Caves located on the southern coast of Zakynthos, where you can enjoy a stop for swimming. Return to the port, and travel to the Aristeon Olive Oil Press. Learn about the long history of olive oil production on the island and taste some samples. Finally, be returned to your hotel on Zakynthos to finish the tour.

What people are saying about Laganas

This was a super fun day out. Our guide, Sakis, was so helpful, funny and all around a pleasure to have as a guide. The activities were well planned and everything went smoothly. The boat trip was incredible. So relaxing. The side activities did feel slightly rushed, I would have skipped the olive oil museum to have more time at one of the other stops, since it's a turtle tour. Museum was still interesting though with being able to taste different types of olive oil. Would recommend!

Wonderful outing! We had to postpone the day trip due to the waves being too big. The guide apologized a thousand times when it was not his fault. The next day we had a wonderful afternoon! Everything was perfect according to the program, boat in a small group of 10 people and adorable guides (boat and bus)! Thank you!

Very nice tour with a fabulous guide who could tell a lot about the island. The boat tour was very entertaining, but we felt very sorry for the turtles because countless boats drifted really close to a single turtle.

We booked at the end of September, so there wasn't much going on. The driver was very friendly and for once even drove to our hotel outside the pick-up area.

it was a amazing experience. We had an opportunity to see turtles, explore the keri caves and enjoy the island. The staff was very kind.
