La Jolla Cove

Take a lesson before the tour begins and grab all the necessary kayak equipment. The tour takes place in the La Jolla Ecological Reserve. There are 3 different habitats in the reserve, and on your tour you will have the chance paddle to all three - the rocky reefs, sandy flats, and kelp beds. Paddle to the seven caves of La Jolla and go into the Clam’s cave, which is the largest cave on the tour. See the local marine life on the tour including sea lions, harbor seals, Garibaldi, leopard sharks, and the occasional dolphin.

Come to the dive shop for a quick briefing before you start the activity. Then, put on your wetsuit and get your snorkeling gear. Take a free shuttle to the snorkeling site. Next, hop into the beautiful water at La Jolla Cove, a picturesque cove that is surrounded by cliffs and a beach. Dive into the underwater world to admire the natural rock formations and marine plant life. Swim among the sea creatures, such as sea lions, garibaldi, sea cucumbers, sea stars, sea anemones, and much more. Follow your guide around the water and take in the world beneath the waves. Spend some time in the water, and then head back to the dive shop afterward. Have a shower, dry yourself, and get changed out of your wetsuit in the changing rooms at the end of the activity.

Head to the meeting point and check in for your tour before taking part in a short lesson where you'll learn the basics of snorkeling. Then, grab all the necessary equipment, including a wet suit, snorkel, and fins, and head to the La Jolla Ecological Reserve. Explore the sandy flats habitat adjacent to La Jolla Cove where you'll encounter harmless leopard sharks and other marine life. See shovelnose guitarfish, harbor seals, and Garibaldi, and perhaps even the occasional sea lion or dolphin. Once your tour is over, you'll be allowed to hang on to your snorkeling gear and wetsuit for the rest of the day. As you make your way down to the La Jolla Cove, you'll pass rocky outcroppings busy with cormorants and lounging seals below. At La Jolla Cove, you'll hear the history of Ellen B. Scripps and the lasting impact she's left on San Diego. After a visit to the iconic Children's Pool, you'll make your way up to the village for a sampling of some of La Jolla's art galleries. We'll point out a few restaurant recommendations along the way, before ending the tour about a block away from where you started.

We head out from the shop towards our first stop at La Jolla Cove. Stop #1 At: La Jolla Cove, 1100 Coast Blvd, La Jolla, San Diego, CA 92037-3600 We'll explore La Jolla's most necessary stop, La Jolla Cove, and check out the thriving sea lion community that makes its home there. You'll learn about the underwater park, the local sea life, and the history of the artist colony that got La Jolla its start. Stop #2 At: Children’s Pool, 850 Coast Blvd, La Jolla, San Diego, CA 92037 This coastal attraction is a shared space where humans and seals frolic together. This area is known for tidepool exploration at low tide and for viewing birds on the big rock near the beach. Get a chance to look at the beautiful real estate hanging over the beach. Stop #5 At: Pacific Beach & Crystal Pier, 4500 Ocean Blvd, San Diego, CA 92109 The historic wooden pier is a serene spot to enjoy sweeping coastal views or watch surfers at play, plus the adjacent beach is an inviting spot to lounge with your toes in the silky sand. Stop #6 At: Fay Avenue Bike Path (Agave Plants), 6201 Fay Ave Bike Bath, La Jolla, CA 92037 The trail winds through a pleasantly landscaped quiet neighborhood that offers a playground, water fountain and several grassy, shaded areas for relaxing. Beyond the park, prickly pear cacti and agave plants dot the landscape, and mature eucalyptus trees nicely frame the path. From our 6th stop, we will continue through the bike path and mander through La Jolla Village to finish the ride back at San Diego Tours & Rentals Shop.
