What people are saying about La Fortuna
The guides were absolutely incredible and super accomodating. My husband and I took the trip from Playa Hermosa all the way to La Fortuna on very little sleep - this trip took about 4 hours. We ended up being an hour late to the tour but the guides were incredibly helpful. They picked us up and took us to the tour to meet the rest of the group. Following the La Fortuna hike, waterfall, and lunch, my husband was incredibly tired and still feeling sick from the windy car ride and wanted to go to Tabacon to relax. The guides were super understanding and even went the extra mile of one, dropping us off at our car, and two offered to take us to Tabacon (guide us there in our car.) I was extremely grateful that they would even take us to our car, already going above and beyond, they even offered to escort us to Tabacon! We declined because Tabacon was truthfully a 15-minute drive and pretty easy to find but this is the generosity and helpfulness you can expect from these guides. 10 stars.
THANK YOU for being part of our first trip to such a gorgeous country! The tour was jam-packed with different stops and activities, even if they were short, and allowed for plenty of restroom and coffee breaks. Juan hustled tirelessly, ensuring that we were on schedule despite a small setback in the beginning (Costa Rica doesn't use addresses in the way that some countries do, so it was harder to find our hostel, but the tour manager was accessible by phone and willing to help us out too). So did all the boys working the ziplines - what they did was tough work but they were so friendly and experienced. To clarify the drop-off policy, if you plan to stay in La Fortuna at the end, let the tour company know in advance where your hotel is, and they will drop you off there as long as it's near the center of town. Just remind your driver after the hot springs. You'll miss out on dinner which is too bad only because all the food was a 10/10, but overall, we have no regrets about booking!
Anthony and William made this a fun adventure: Anthony with his personality and drawing the adventurers together --- and William for his love of the outdoors and science which he shared willingly. Both guides showed respect and knowledge of the volcano and environment. Good to know: There are rooms for changing in and out of your bathing suit before and after the Falls hike, so you do not travel the rest of the day in a wet suit. The visit to the little village was a little disappointing as we didn't really see the village and learn about life there. I am 71 and was a bit tired at the end of the day from the steep steps on both hikes, but the tour was doable. We were a little slower than the young folks, but the guides made sure we were not left behind. The hot tub at the end of the day felt wonderful.
Our guide was Eric. He was very knowledgeable, passionate and animated. He found the little things that you would easily pass by. The waterfalls was exhilarating. The return climb was interesting. The Indian village with its history was wonderful. Lunch was a well deserved rest. We toured the lava fields them into the rain forest. The day ended with a much needed dip in the hot springs. I understand why this is the number one rated tour. One thing I would make clear to guess is the fact you will need to wade a creek and you will get wet to at least your knees. Wick away clothing and water shoes are ideal.
Our driver was local and very knowledgeable. We saw the waterfalls, watched birds, ziplines, repelled, dat in hot springs and ate great local cuisine. An amazing day seeing the mountains and valleys during the drive. We even saw sloths and iguanas. I recommend this tour. Even the ziplining Instructors were patient and amazing
