Full description
Meet your guide outside the ticket exit of Randen Arashiyama Station, then take a short taxi ride into the foothills of Arashiyama. Start the tour at the Otagi-Nenbutsu-Ji Temple and begin your day by walking among 1,200 stone statues of Buddha's disciples, carved by patrons of the temple. Soak up the atmosphere of this unique magical space and feel as if you have entered into a different spiritual realm. On the way to your next site, have the option to stop at a cafe originating from the Edo period where you can enjoy traditional Japanese sweets and drinks.

Then, arrive at the nearby temple of Adashino Nenbutsu-Ji - a very sacred site that connects local people to their 1000-year old ancestry. Explore the grounds including one of the most picturesque bamboo groves in all of Kyoto. Stroll down Atago Kaido street and browse through an array of shops selling traditional handicraft goods such as bamboo wares, pottery, incense, and paper goods.

Next, head over to the Gio-Ji Temple, entering through a mystical moss garden which was once the site of a nunnery. Marvel at the moss, bamboo, and towering maple trees which will certainly spark your imagination. Afterward, discover the Okochi Sanso Villa- a sprawling estate created by a silent film actor that took 30 years to complete. Walk through the property until you eventually reach the top of the mountain. Here, you can admire exquisite views in all directions and enjoy a bowl of matcha tea.

After this, spend the end of the day at the Sagano Bamboo Grove. If you're lucky, feel the wind blowing and hear the magical clanking noise of the stalks around you. From the bamboo grove, enter into Tenryu-Ji which is home to the first Zen garden on the grounds of an immaculate temple. Finally, soak up the view of Togetsukyo Bridge, one of the iconic images of Kyoto.

Depending on the pace of the tour, you may not have time to visit all sites within the allotted time. If the situation arises that some sites need to be eliminated, you will be able to decide with your tour guide which attractions you would be happy to miss and which you would definitely like to see.
