The entrance into the experience was the only hiccup we had, it’s easy to miss and a bit challenging to find on a map (Google or Apple Maps). You must take your shoes off to enter the tea house, so be prepared for that. The entrance is subtle and they allow you to check your coat and leave the rest of your items. While inside the tea house you’re allowed to take photos and short videos out of respect, but to be honest you shouldn’t do any of it because they’ll take some for you after. You should come to this experience to enjoy every bit of the ceremony and be present, and if you can, keep your phone away. The tea master was wonderful from the kimono she chose to the precision of every movement. They prepare you matcha tea to try and show you the proper way to enjoy it. If you’re lucky, you’ll enjoy the tea master’s prepared matcha, which my girlfriend loved. This is a must for any matcha lovers out there! Thank you to the tea master’s and our guide. We will be back!
Beautiful ceremony and a highlight of our trip to Kyoto. The tea master was amazing to watch and was happy to answer all of our questions (we had many!) with a smile. The hostess/translator was also incredibly lovely. Will be recommending this experience to any of our friends and family that come to Kyoto.
