The world famous 5-hour walking tour to learn the history and culture of Kyoto from a licensed guide. This unique tour started in 1996 as the original tour of this kind in Japan and covers hidden spots that are rarely known to most of the visitors.
What to Expect
Gathering at 10:00 AM in front of JR Kyoto Station, you will walk around off-the-beaten paths in Kyoto. During the 5-hour walking tour, you will visit hidden Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, traditional Japanese handicrafts ateliers and shops, etc., which are not open to the public.
The tour is guided by knowledgeable and friendly guide with a national license. The guide will provide detailed information and stories about life and traditions of Kyoto, for example about the lifestyle of Kyoto people, what the annual events are like, and how Buddhism or Shintoism is incorporated into their daily lives, and also the culture and tradition of Japan in general. The walking distance is about 3 km including a tea break on the way and the tour concludes near the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple. This famous tour started in 1996 is also introduced in various guide books, magazines and on TV around the world.
