I brought my mom to Maui for an early Mother’s Day gift trip, and we had the pleasure of joining Michael for a driving tour up to the summit of Mt. Haleakala for sunset and stargazing. My mom suffers from pretty extreme motion sickness and an extreme fear of heights…but we both wanted to experience the beauty of this sacred place, so we took a chance (and a few Bonine between us!) on this tour, and we are so glad we did. Michael was an exceptionally safe, kind, and knowledgeable guide—his driving skills on those winding roads put us at ease, and his quirky sense of humor kept us all in good spirits. In addition to our wonderful guide, the location itself is one not to be missed. This is topography that is nearly prehistoric in some places, unbelievably beautiful in all. There are few (if any) times in ones life you can literally walk above the clouds…this is one one. Whether it’s a sunrise or sunset tour, it’s a must-see—and this tour company was seamless in its presentation.

We ended up going on the Haleakala Sunrise Guided Bike Tour with Bike Maui. We had a great time. Despite the early morning call, it was worth it seeing a spectacular sunrise. The tour was well organized and run efficiently. Marlon was the bus driver driving us to the volcano. He is an excellent guide giving us a lot of interesting information. I like the AC being on going up the mountain. (helped a lot with motion sickness) There were also ample opportunities to use the restroom. I like how riding down the volcano, Drew (our bike tour guide) encouraged to go at a pace at our comfort level. I chose to ride slow. The views going down the volcano were spectacular. I like the stop in Makawao for lunch. Thank you Bike Maui for an awesome time.

I really enjoyed using this audio guide because I have a family of seven and didn’t want to pay the expensive per person rate. I loved the history lessons and how the Bluetooth in the app picks up exactly where your gps and guides you accurately on the tour. One note, The App needs to let people know how long the tour lasts and also reservations have to be made in advance for some of the locations you may want to visit. We couldn’t see the Black sand beach because we didn’t have a reservation. And that was a bummer.

This was one of the best parts of our week long Maui trip. Our guide waa great. He was so passionate about Hawai'i, the history, the culture, everything. I learned more on this outing than any other part of the trip and my own appreciation for Hawai'i was increased. He clearly loved sharing his knowledge and heart for the island and I highly recommend. The guide's nickname was "Dom".

It was soo amazing. Russell was so amazing and great at what he does. Definitely a memorable night! The views were breathtaking!
