Full description
Nestled right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur is a bustling area, full of life, color, and character, but perhaps more importantly, a bounty of culinary treats varied to satisfy every taste. That area is China Town, and that street is Petaling Street. Forget the museums, galleries, churches, and monuments; on this tour you will be transported to the very center of Malaysian culture and sample the best food that China Town has to offer. Also known as Wet Markets, the maze of makeshift stalls, heaped high with fresh produce, and fronted by smiling locals, are where you’ll get your first taste for Malaysian cooking. Just follow your nose and you won’t be disappointed. The tour will navigate you through the winding alleys bursting with heavenly scents, you’ll meet the street hawkers who have been cooking up their wares for decades, and learn everything there is to know about the history behind the area and its people. Start the day with some yu tiao fried bread sticks served with congee rice porridge, move on to ikan bakar barbequed fish, then sweeten your taste buds with a portion of kaya jam, thick slabs of toast with butter and a generous dollop of sweet coconut jam. At each stop you will try something new and experience a part of the rich and varied traditions, which have formed the Kuala Lumpur of today.

Great cultural and food experience!

What a fascinating approach to Chinatown! If you want to understand the multiplicity of food available here, this is the tour to choose. Pauline was a mine of information about all sorts of other aspects of life in modern Malaysia as well. My recommendation- go for it!
