The site of Plaszow is now just a large public space dotted with information boards, memorials and building ruins. We are so pleased we booked a Guide to bring what was a place of unimaginable horror back to life. Our Guide, Olga, was just fantastic. She was extremely knowledgable, very enthusiastic and just a lovely, friendly lady. Olga even walked us to the nearest bus stop and helped us catch the correct bus back into Old Town. Olga explained the official plans to finally turn the entire site into a more formal museum location which when once completed we hope to return to visit again. If your visit to Krakow is one of interest in WWII then Plaszow is somewhere you really must visit to experience, and definitely go with the help of Olga.

Full description

Visit the former concentration camp at Krakow-Plashov, which opened in 1940. Learn about its dark history, how it started as a forced labor camp and was converted into a concentration camp in 1941. Pay your respects at the several memorials dedicated to remembering the victims.

Come to understand the impact of Nazi rule in the area and how the deportation of Jews from the Krakow ghetto, beginning in 1942, came to pass. See the different parts of the camp and learn about the intensive labor carried out at the quarry and military factories. Get an in-depth insight into what camp life was like.

Discuss the life of Oskar Schindler and hear how the camp was portrayed in the 1993 movie, Schindler's List. Visit the replica of the camp built under the direction of Steven Spielberg in the Liban Quarry, some hundred meters away.

We was the only two on the tour and was made to feel extremely safe and welcomed. Our guide was fabulous, she went above and beyond. It even came as a surprise that she told stories about the camp that related to her own relatives and family, blew us away. The camp itself is a true special place in the biblical sense. Would highly recommend for any one not just history buffs. 10/10. Would do the tour again.
