Full description

Enjoy an extended Communism tour of Krakow’s Nowa Huta district on this tour by vintage Trabant motor car; icon of the Socialist era of the Iron Curtain. Discover abandoned steelworks' HQ and stop for lunch at a classic Milk Bar, and try pickled cucumbers with traditional shots of vodka and more. All customers are equal; but some are more equal than others! If you fancy yourself as more of a Communist bigwig than an everyday Socialist worker, then this upgraded version of a standard Communism tour of Krakow goes beyond a mere sighsteeing tour of Nowa Huta to include lunch at an old-school Milk Bar canteen. Kick back with a rare opportunity to sample pickled cucumbers served with a shot of vodka. Be wowed by a guided visit to the abandoned HQ and offices at the former Lenin Steelworks. For anyone curious about Communist era life in the town of Nowa Huta, this is a fantastic tour. This tour really engages the senses from the experience of riding in the Trabant car, eating a traditional lunch at a milk bar, and having polish pickles and vodka in the living room of one of the apartments. It's a great way to not only learn about life during that time, but to actually experience it a bit. It's educational, yet fun. We did it as a team event with co-workers.

We were picked up on time by our driver in her very noisy Trabant. We then took to the road for our visit to Nova Huta. We got an insight into life there from the 1950s through to the present day as we visited shops, a couple of restaurants and the highlight, a typical communist-era apartment. Along the way we heard about the history of Poland and had a few laughs with our guide. The tour was great fun and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to travellers to Krakow.

Very knowledgeable host, private insight into how things where and what people went through to gain the freedom. True family stories added extra character to the historical information. Friendly, helpful and fun staff. Would do it again, not one to miss!
