We’ll take you on a guided tour to visit Jasna Góra, the spiritual capital of Poland. This is one the most important places of Marian worship and has been an important pilgrimage destination for hundreds of years.
What to Expect
Our 6-hour tour of Jasna Góra departs from Cracow and takes you in air-conditioned comfort to Częstochowa. You’ll visit the Jasna Gora Monastery to see the famous Black Madonna of Częstochowa housed there. During the tour you will also see the Chapel of Virgin Mary, the Basilica with the Presbytery (an area reserved especially for the clergy), the Treasury, the Knights Room, the 600-Years Museum, and Poland's National Shrine.
The Monastery is a community of Paulite monks. The iconic painting is one of the Virgin Mary with the Baby Jesus, and is believed to have worked miracles. According to legend, the work is attributed to St. Luke the Evangelist, who painted the image on a board taken from the table at which the family of Jesus ate their meals.
The history of the Monastery is linked to some of the most significant events in the history of Poland. Defensive walls encircle the Monastery, the Treasury, the 600-Years Museum and St. Rochʼs Church.
John Paul II was an honorary citizen of Częstochowa. He had an emotional attachment to the Queen of Poland from Jasna Góra and made many pilgrimages to the site. Jasna Góra is visited annually by 3-4 million pilgrims, many traveling from overseas.
