Full description
Visit one of the world’s oldest working salt mines that has been producing table salt for over 700 years! Your English-speaking guide will take you 140 meters underground on a 2.5-hour journey into the Wieliczka Salt Mine. The more than 2.5-kilometers long route is full of chambers with amazing carvings, statues, mining machines, and equipment, where everything is made of salt. To reach the first level of the mine, which is 64 meters underground, you have to descend a wooden stairway with 378 stairs. At the end of the tour, you’ll travel to the surface by elevator. Over the centuries, miners developed a tradition of carving sculptures out of the rock salt. You’ll find entire underground churches, altars, and dozens of life-size statues on 9 underground levels. There’s an underground museum and special-purpose chambers, including a sanatorium for those suffering from respiratory ailments. The Chapel of the Blessed Kinga is the largest of the chapels, and is located more than 100 meters underground. There’s also a subterranean lake that’s been open to visitors since the early days of mining operations.

Driver for hotel pick up was amazing so helpful and friendly, looked after us from start to finish! Only 6 in taxi which was perfect during covid period. The salt mine trip was amazing, tour guide very informative and again only a small group. Not for the faint hearted! There is over 800 steps! So worth it though! Cheaper with this app then paying through hotel in krawkow!

We enjoyed the tour, it was an amazing experience, but, when the tour ends, you are 130m below ground, the tour guide tells you where to go to catch the elevator back up to ground level, then leaves you to visit the gift shop, restaurant/bar, which we did. But when you eventually exit the elevator back at street level, you are NOT at the salt mine!! There are no signs, help, or anyone to point you back in the right direction. This to me was totally unacceptable. If it would have been my parents, I feel they would have been totally disoriented and lost. Thank goodness for google maps, because that helped us make our way back on a 15/20 walk back. Also, the mine was closed when we exited so you couldn’t buy any souvenirs, drinks, or food when we eventually made or way back.

Tour guide that works for Wieliczka Salt Mine was great! Very informative, kept the tour engaging and made the tour fly by quick. Really liked have a hotel pick-up. Driver met us right in front of our hostel. Picked up a few others along the way to the salt mine location. I really enjoyed not having to get in and out of other transportations. When returning back from the tour, the driver was kind drop us off in the middle of town instead of back at our hostel.
