Full description

Visit Auschwitz on a day trip from Krakow. Learn about the history of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps during a guided tour with a certified historian and guide. Auschwitz-Birkenau was founded in 1940 by Nazi Germany and was the largest concentration camp operated by the Nazis. It became the final resting place for millions of people, mostly Jews and Poles, who were murdered in gas chambers. Upon arrival, you may visit the museum and memorial in the suburbs of Oświęcim, about 60 kilometers west of Krakow. Then, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes later, meet your professional guide for an in-depth tour. Pass through the gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei" to enter Auschwitz I, where your guide will show you around the preserved area and explain the history of the site.

Then, visit the second camp at Birkenau, where mass killings took place as part of the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish Question." Spend about 1 hour at the Birkenau camp, before meeting your driver for the return journey to Kraków.

We were picked up on time and our guide was helpful telling us what to do when we got to the camps and stayed with us until he handed us over to our tour guide. Our tour guide at Auschwitz and Birkenau was really good, engaging, informative and very passionate. The whole day was very moving. I have one minor complaint only and that was about the coach/minibus. The seats were very narrow and uncomfortable, we sat at the back and you could not see out of the window at all making it a long dull uncomfortable journey. A couple of the reviews mentioned a documentary about the liberation of the camps shown on the journey unfortunately that was not on our bus. Otherwise a very thought provoking, emotional day which I would advise anyone to do to understand the atrocities so much more. Very well organised day.

Very good visit and experience. The guide speaks Spanish perfectly, perhaps we were missing the one to soak us from the beginning in the history of the place, basic and good explanations, but nothing out of the ordinary. We expected a somewhat more detailed experience. It seemed like we were in a bit of a rush. Other than that, transport was fine (although somewhat late) and the weather was good.

Our on-site guide was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and had contact with former prisoners. There was insufficient time to go into more detail. At the Auschwitz camp we had headphones and we could follow the guide's explanations very well, at Birkenau this system did not exist and the explanations were therefore very limited (during the stops). To do it again, I will choose a formula that offers more time for visits with a personal guide
