Full description

Visit Auschwitz on a day trip from Krakow. Learn about the history of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps during a guided tour with a certified historian and guide. Auschwitz-Birkenau was founded in 1940 by Nazi Germany and was the largest concentration camp operated by the Nazis. It became the final resting place for millions of people, mostly Jews and Poles, who were murdered in gas chambers. Upon arrival, you may visit the museum and memorial in the suburbs of Oświęcim, about 60 kilometers west of Krakow. Then, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes later, meet your professional guide for an in-depth tour. Pass through the gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei" to enter Auschwitz I, where your guide will show you around the preserved area and explain the history of the site.

Then, visit the second camp at Birkenau, where mass killings took place as part of the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish Question." Spend about 1 hour at the Birkenau camp, before meeting your driver for the return journey to Kraków.

Visiting the site was a great experience, highly recommended. Our guide was very informative. However our pickup time changed less than 24 hours before to 3 hours later, so we could not rebook. Would have liked more time to soak everything in, as there was a lot to take in. More time there would have been ideal.

The tour operator was OK, they changed the time of pick up one day before the tour (originally 8am to 12.30pm) but it was OK since we did not have any other plans that day, they should however inform about time changes much before and not just the day before. For the rest it was great and I would still recommend them. It was an amazing experience that should not be skipped.

A really well organised trip out; we arrived early and site was very quiet so we enjoyed a tour less disturbed by other groups which was great. Our tour Natalia was fantastic, spoke in depth about the happenings at the camps and explained to us the feelings that many would have been experiencing. A short drive to Birkenau to experience the full scale of the camps and another, shorter tour, finished the day. Konrad, our bus guide was also great and keen to help, managing to book us onto a salt mine tour on our way back to Krakow with another couple on the same bus as us. Really accommodating and willing to help.
