The original pick up time was 7:00 but it had to change to 5:20 which was a shock at first and honestly we really didn't feel like it but in hindsight it was perfect because we ended up being the first english group in right after the polish one, the pace was great, we didn't have to rush through things and we got to see everything without too many people around. Even though it was a rainy November day and we had read that it's not peak season the buses that came after us unloaded lots of people so I can only imagine how crowded it would be afterwards. If you are so inclined, I recommend having some currency with you to tip them (unlike us that we were sadly out of zloti). They were very organised and they deserve it. The caramel candies in the end was a very sweet and warm gesture. TLDR: The pick up time change was inconvenient but in the end we were grateful for it. Have zloti to tip; much deserved!

Such an interesting and informative day. The tour was organised really well and the transport was clean and efficient. Our departure time was pushed forward by about half an hour and we were picked up in a smaller vehicle with a few other passengers and taken to the larger bus to depart at our scheduled time, but this was well communicated the day before. Our tour group was about 15-20 people which was much more personal and relaxed than a larger tour. Mario was our tour guide and I cannot recommend him enough, he was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the camp delivered in a respectful and clear way. You get a small break (~15 mins) between Auschwitz I and Birkenau to grab a coffee. The facilities at the camps are very good with toilets, a cafe, and bookshop at Auschwitz I and toilets and bookshop at Birkenau. The nature of the day is inherently somber but it is definitely worth the visit and this tour was the perfect way to do it with slick transport and a great guide

Full description

Visit Auschwitz on a day trip from Krakow. Learn about the history of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps during a guided tour with a certified historian and guide. Auschwitz-Birkenau was founded in 1940 by Nazi Germany and was the largest concentration camp operated by the Nazis. It became the final resting place for millions of people, mostly Jews and Poles, who were murdered in gas chambers. Pass through the gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei" to enter Auschwitz I, where your guide will show you around the preserved area and explain the history of the site.  Then, visit the second camp at Birkenau, where mass killings took place as part of the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish Question."

  • The pickup time may change (the possible start of the tour is usually between 5:30 AM and 1:30 PM), so please consider this in your plans. You choose a preferred time, which is not guaranteed. The exact start time will be communicated via email from the activity provider the day before the tour.
  • As per the requirements of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, all participants must provide their full name and contact details as part of the booking
  • You are not permitted to enter the museum with large bags or backpacks (the maximum size allowed is 20 x 30 centimeters)
  • It is recommended that you bring lunch and drinks with you. You can also add a Lunch Box to your reservation.
  • The pace and duration of the tours are determined by the memorial's visitor service. Unfortunately, GetYourGuide and your guide have no influence on the duration of the break time

Such a sad but extremely intresting day seeing both the camps and being told the whole story. Truly breathtaking to see it all in real life. I cannot fault the tour itself however getting there was completely different to how I imagined. We originally booked for 9am, I know this time can change as it states when booking it could be anywhere between 5:30am-1:30pm. However we were told the night before that we were being picked up at 4:50am. Once picked up we arrived at auschwitz for 6am to then be told we had to sit and wait in the mini bus till 7am. Then we had to wait outside to get our ticket until 7:30am, the tour finally began at 8:30am. This did pay off in the end as we were one of the first groups in and we missed the huge lines, I just wished all this would have been explained when booking. Definitely something to factor in when booking the trip!
