BOOK THIS TOUR! Our driver Maciek was FABULOUS! I could have spent the entire day riding around in the sweet Trabant and listening to the history and seeing the sights! My son, 12 years old really enjoyed this with me. Absolutely the #1 tour of our 5 days in Krakow! Maciek was fun, engaging, and full of so much energy! I really enjoyed having someone to chat about history with while riding around Nowa Huta! If history is your thing and you want to better understand the communist era of Krakow-book this tour!!

My Mum (late 70,s) and I (50) had a fantastic time on the Trabant tour of Nowa Huta. It was great fun and gave us a deeper insight into Poland and its history. If you are interested in history, politics, architecture, industry, town planning, Polish culture ….. and of course vintage vehicles….in any combination, then go for it. Cornelia our guide was very knowledgeable, a great communicator and looked after us wonderfully. I would highly recommend doing this tour.

Full description

The Berlin Wall may have fallen and the Iron Curtain cracked, but many of communism's most famous legacies are alive and well in Krakow. Travel in a vintage Trabant, Polish Fiat 'Toddler' or a Soviet Lada automobile on a visit to Krakow's Socialist district of Nowa Huta, complete with steelworks and houses built in the Soviet Realist style. This unique project was meant to be a model communist city, but later came to be one of the centers of revolution and resistance within Poland. During the tour you’ll travel back in time to experience the wonders of this one-of-a-kind city. Not only will you discover what life was like under communism, you’ll hear all sorts of interesting stories. Your laid-back local guide will certainly bring the 'good old days' back to life! The Communism Tour includes walking around the district and refreshments in an old-fashioned restaurant. There's also a short visit to the local 1950s shop with unique, traditional tacky souvenirs and truly Socialist interior design.

I know a lot of people do these tours because they are either interested in the cars or want to do something a little quirky. Putting the cars aside it's still a great tour to do and recommend for anyone interested in the area or period. Our guides were local to the area and made it a fun, interesting and informative tour. Our group of seven contained petrol heads and non-petrol heads and we all thought the tour was great and the cars (a Trabant and a Lada) were an added fun bonus. Highly recommend.
