Kahului: Self-Driving Audio Tour of Road to Hana

Kahului: Self-Driving Audio Tour of Road to Hana

Start by downloading the Action Tour Guide app, which will function as your personal tour guide, audio tour, and map. Purchase one tour per car, not per person. Everyone listens together! Note: This 65+ mile-long tour covers the essentials of Maui Road to Hana in 2-3 hours. Once downloaded, your tour begins in either Kahului or Hana. From Kahului, you’ll head through the bohemian town of Pa’ia and learn about the beginnings of the Hawaiian people. Your first beach, Ho’okipa, waits just ahead, a perfect destination for windsurfing. Then, spot Maui’s famously huge waves at Jaws Beach and hear about the history of Hawaiian surfing, before officially crossing the Zero Mile Marker and beginning the Road to Hana. Get a view of a roadside waterfall next, then cruise past a grove of Maui’s famous rainbow eucalyptus. Hike the short, lush Waikamoi Ridge Trail afterward, before stopping by the Garden of Eden Arboretum for more jungle scenery. Next, enjoy Maui’s famous coastline at Kaumahina State Park and snap some great photos from Nua'ailua Viewpoint. Continuing on, you’ll have the option to take a detour along Ke’anae Peninsula and learn the history of this picturesque place. Up next is the Wailua Valley Lookout, one of the best views on the whole island. Then there’s the sleepy village of Nahiku, once home to George Harrison! Learn about the long history of the Hana Highway as you make your way to the famous Nahiku Marketplace, where you’ll find all kinds of tropical goodies. After that, explore an ancient (and huge!) lava tube. Kahanu Garden is just beyond that, with over 400 acres of exotic flora. Then, stroll along a black sand beach at Waiʻānapanapa State Park, followed by dramatic red sand at Koki Beach. Next up is Hāmoa Beach, which has been kept in more or less its natural state by none other than Oprah! Then, finish your journey by hiking the famous and scenic Pīpīwai Trail. Finally, your tour will conclude at Kipahulu Visitor Center on the eastern shore of Maui. If you begin in Hana, you’ll see all the same spots traveling in the opposite direction.

Maui Full Island: Scenic Self-Guided Driving Tour

Maui Full Island: Scenic Self-Guided Driving Tour

Don’t miss a thing as your favorite audio tour narrator guides you across the Maui's popular driving routes; Road to Hana, Haleakala & Upcountry, Iao Valley, West & South Maui. Follow our suggested itineraries or create your own half, full or multi day sightseeing. Maui’s beauty is obvious, but when you uncover the stories, culture and history, you’ll truly connect with the Valley Isle. Includes commentary for: Road to Hana Haleakala Volcano West & South Maui Iao Valley Road to Hana (3 Routes) Maui's most famous drive and absolutely an adventure, the Road to Hana begins over by Kahului Airport and follows the coast all the way to Hana. You'll be driving along the side of the massive Haleakala Volcano to the quietly authentic town of Hana. Then, it's recommended to continue for another 45 minutes or so past Hana to the Oheo Pools. The road is famous for its rainforest, picturesque waterfalls, black sand beach and much more. Equally famous is the driving itself, on a road that winds its way through hundreds of curves and crosses 61 bridges along the way. Haleakala The south and eastern part of Maui is dominated by the 10,000 foot tall dormant volcano - Haleakala. It's like nowhere else in that you can drive from sea level to the summit in about two hours. And when you get there, the scenery and environment are stunning. Going to watch sunrise from Haleakala is popular and you must book your space in advance. But visiting at any time of day is very worthwhile. West Maui West Maui describes the area from Ma'alaea all the way north along the coast through Ka'anapali, Kapalua and Honolua Bay. This region is filled with popular resorts, beaches, Hawaiian historical and cultural sites and even a terrific blowhole. South Maui Kihei and the high-end resort area of Wailea. Kihei is a popular area to explore with many good snorkelling areas, sandy beaches that you can take a long walk on and enjoy a sunset. There's also many mini malls for shopping and dining. Immediately south of Kihei is Wailea which has some magnificent cove beaches and superb snorkeling where you can cruise around with the local turtles. Continue south for the favorite beaches of Maui locals at Makena. And if you are the type who likes to drive to the end of the road - continue all the way to La Perouse Bay, for more snorkelling and the see the site of the last big lava flow on Maui. Central Maui Central Maui is there part of the island that sits in the isthmus, or flat area between the two giant volcanoes that form the island. Mostly you will use this area to drive from the resort towns, across to join the Road to Hana and Haleakala tours, and for the airport. But there is some good sightseeing here too. The Iao Needle features a towering volcanic spire and is one of the wettest places on the planet. There's also tropical fruit farms, Maui's shopping areas and the Ocean Center.

Our guide was amazing. She was very knowledgeable about the route, the plants, the history and the culture of Hawaii. She has a beautiful singing voice and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Hawaii playlist on our return ride. The lunch she suggested was fantastic. She helped me get in the waterfall pool area so my husband could take the pictures. That was extremely helpful. It was an incredible experience. We were impressed by her driving skills. The Road to Hana is not something I would want to drive myself. If you can, book this tour. You will never forget it.

Shannon was a delight to spend the day with. Her love for Maui and Hawaiian culture really shines through and we loved that she was willing to share alot of information with us. She is also a great photographer and took plenty of photos of us to help commemorate our trip! Thanks again Shannon!

We had an amazing time Jeep riding along the stunning Road to Hana! It was so much fun, and the guide shared tons of useful information. We'd definitely do it again on another tour, anywhere in the world.

Awesome day to discover the road to Hana with no stress of driving. The landscapes are breathtaking and our guide Charleston was the best ! We learned so much about the culture and the wildlife.

What a fantastic audio too along the road to Hana I would definitely recommend this. You would’ve missed a lot if without this guidance.
