We decided to take this tour despite the lack of reviews and met our young guide, Nicolò, near the M5 metro station of Bignami. The comfortable Mercedes minivan was exclusively for us. Nicolò, a local, provided information during our hour-long drive to the Franciacorta area. Our first stop was Ronco Calino Winery, where our guide, Serena, shared fascinating details about the terroir, history, and philosophy of the winery. We toured the cellars, tasted two sparkling wines, and took photos in the vineyard. For lunch, we went to Trattoria del Muliner in Clusane on Lake Iseo’s shore, enjoying simple Italian cuisine with a three-course meal and a glass of Franciacorta. Highlights included smoked trout tartar and sliced beef with spices. After exploring the lake and town, we visited Berlucchi, the most important producer of Franciacorta. The tour was more corporate, but we enjoyed tasting three sparkling wines and seeing a bottle from the first vintage of Franciacorta.
