Full description
Day 1 After getting picked up from your hotel in Kigali in the morning, begin the journey to Akagera National Park. Upon arrival at the park, proceed to the hotel for check-in and later enjoy an evening game drive. Day 2 Enjoy an early-morning breakfast before your half-day game drive in an open-roofed vehicle begins. Spot a variety of game including elephants, buffalos, hippos, lions, Masai giraffe, gazelles, impala, baboons, oribi, Butchel’s zebra, topi, bush baby, leopards, and bushbuck. After lunch, board a boat for a ride along Lake Ihema and enjoy a close encounter with the crocodiles and hippos along the river banks. You will also be able to spot some 525 bird species before heading back to the hotel. Day 3 After breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive before continuing your journey to Musanze, the second largest town in Rwanda, with a stunning backdrop of 5 volcanic mountains – The Virungas. Arrive at the Red Rocks Intercultural Exchange Center for lunch before joining a local brew maker to learn more about the process of brewing local beer from bananas. Spend the night at The Garden Place Hotel. Day 4 After an early-morning breakfast, transfer to the volcanic park headquarters for a briefing before you enjoy a trek with Rwanda's native gorillas. Then, enter the forest in search of the gorillas, which may take 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in the jungle. Meet and stay with the gorillas for a maximum of 1 hour before heading back to the hotel.  Day 5 Rise early for check-out and breakfast before you begin the journey back to Kigali and visit the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo along the way. In Kigali, enjoy some free time for shopping at the local market before getting dropped off at the airport in time for your flight home.
