What to Expect
Podol is rightly considered to be one of the most popular districts in Kiev. It is an embodiment of the democratic spirit of the city. Craftsmen worked here, businessmen traded here, the "fathers of the city" sat in the Magistrates Hall here, and they all prayed i the numerous Podol churches. Meanwhile, the houses of prayer of other communities - Polish, Armenian, Greek, German, Tatar, Jewish - were also to be found in Podol. Podol is the old craftsmen's settlement - the Potters and Tanners; it the Brodsky Mill and the old power station; it is 200-year-old water main and solar clock; it is Kiev's first chemist's shop and the first automobile; it is the first tram line in the Russian Empire.
