Top sights in Kiev
Kiev is not only the capital city of Ukraine, but an exciting and historic metropolis. Visitors can get the most from a trip to Kiev by taking guided tours.
The city's Cathedrals are not to be missed. Essential to the city's architecture and atmosphere, they reflect various periods in the history of Ukraine. A tour guide can provide invaluable information on historical and architectural elements.
St. Michael's Cathedral is perched on a bluff in the Upper Town area. The cathedral, which overlooks the Podil neighborhood, dazzles with its elaborate gold domes.
The exterior of St. Sofia Cathedral Ukraine was remodeled in the Ukrainian Baroque style in the 17th century. The interior shows its Middle Ages origins, with eleventh-century friezes and mosaics. St. Sofia was the first Ukraine landmark on the World Heritage List.
Andrew Descent is a long, winding brick path bridging the Upper Town and Podil neighborhoods. Dotted with historic landmarks like the Castle of Richard the Lionheart, Andrew Descent makes its way down to Podil's popular Kontraktova Square.
Independence Square is the main plaza in Kiev. Despite its World War II destruction, the rebuilt square with its fountain and monument combines history, beauty, and modern commerce.
Friendship Arch is another can't-miss attraction. The lovely titanium arch rises above granite statues celebrating the union of Ukraine and Russia. Obolon, Podil, and Troeschina are visible from its observation deck.
A guided tour including the Mother Motherland statue allows visitors to experience the awe of a 62-meter tall statue honoring thousands of war heroes and workers. The Motherland statue sits majestically atop the Museum of the Great Patriotic War in the Pechersk district.
What people are saying about Kiev
Pick up was well organized and the tour was as advertised. You spend the full day in the exclusion zone and you have enough time to take photos and walk around (in designated areas) on your own. The guide was well prepared and able to tell a lot of stories and speak in well understandable english. We were offered a lot of times to walk around on our own and own pace. We did not miss any spot we wanted to see. We felt all the time safe and did not had any concerns about saftey. The lunch was, ... well as expected not so nice, so take something with you. The transportation vans were nice and we had enough wifi to post photos directly from the bus and backup some of the photos already. We would have appreciated a group discount which was not offered.
Sorry for such a late review, we actually did the 2-day tour on the 1st of March this year and completely forgot to review. What an absolutely incredible experience it was, really could not of changed anything to improve our time. Our tour guide Maria was so amazing, so full of knowledge which really made our tour extra special so thank you so much Maria! We are planning to return and hope we can get Maria again!
Excellent tour from start to finish. Picked up promptly, everything was explained clearly about how are day would be. Natalie our guide was so knowledgeable and answered any questions with ease. We had several stop off, all so interesting with plenty of time for pictures. Lunch in the canteen is different but all part of the experience. Would 100% recommend this tour.
